Pet Dental Care: Critical to Long-Term Health
Part of Bayside Animal Hospital’s passion for preventive care involves maintaining the health of your pet’s teeth. The health and condition of your pet’s teeth and mouth strongly correlates to the overall health of your animal. We incorporate dental care into every annual pet wellness visit and we suggest more frequent dental checkups for senior pets.
Without regular professional cleanings, your pet could contract dental diseases that jeopardize the health of your pet’s heart, liver, and kidneys. If dental disease or decay is present, these conditions will continue to deteriorate without medical intervention.
As part of your pet’s wellness visits, we conduct tooth and oral exams to identify and treat problem areas before they lead to health complications. We support your pet’s dental health by offering the following procedures and capabilities:
- Dental Surgery
- Repair abscess
- Tooth extractions
- Slab fracture repairs
Digital Dental Radiography
Come in to take advantage of this important tool used to assess the health of your pet’s teeth and mouth. Digital dental radiography is not only painless and safe for your pet but it also increases the accuracy of our evaluations. It exposes activity below the gum line and inside your pet’s teeth.
By using digital dental radiography before every cleaning and medical procedure, we are better able to prevent or minimize complications. If your pet requires specialized care, we’ll provide a copy of these images along with a referral to a specialist. Conditions that digital dental radiography helps to identify include:
- Periodontal disease
- Abscessed teeth
- Broken or chipped teeth
- Dead roots
- Masses inside the mouth
